Help Identify steel collar ring

When changing out the secondary fuel filters and cleaning the canisters, the following came out of the drain cock at the bottom of one of them. It is a tiny/small steel collar ring of some sort. Anyone recognize what this is? I'm not sure if it lined the drain hole or not. When I replaced the drain valve/plug everything seems to work ok without it. Had to tighten it down really hard to get it to seal off and not drip but I can't tell where this would have gone.

How big is that thing? It looks like the collar for the female terminal in a waterproof connector.
Although I can't figure out how it would ever make it's way into your fuel system.

It's 3/16 of an inch in diameter and it appears to be some sort of compression fitting. It is not a solid ring and will expand/contract if you push on it where the v shaped ends join.

Yep, it's the tension ring from a female connector. (see picture in earlier post)
Somebody doing wiring while changing filters?
Those collars are really tough-- so much so that I had to make a special tool to get them off and on the terminal ends when crimping the terminals on. Good thing your filter caught it-- if it had made it's way into the IP it could have been pretty costly.

Could be someones idea of a joke or mystery for the next person to change the filters. I know a man that bought a new car in the late 60's. It had a tinkling noise like a small bell when he drove it. He carried it back to the dealer several times and they coukld no locate the source. He finally told them if they could not fix it he wanted a new car. They started tearing the car apart and found a file hanging from a wire in the seat springs with a note saying "I bet it took you guys a while to find this"

Thanks for all of the replies and identifying this for me. I sure hope I don't find anymore surprises like that. My next project is to change the oil and filters. Who knows what may come out of that. Then after that I'm going to look into why I can hear my in tank pump running but nothing is coming out of the air bleeder valve on top of the secondary filters. My guess is the bottom fell off the pump as has happened to others. I'm developing a love hate relationship with my new truck mistress. She is very addictive and makes me really happy when driving her and I get real satisfaction out of tinkering and fixing stuff on her, but it seems like it never ends. Is this what they call a high maintenance woman? [thumbzup]
