HELP-M818 mudflaps needed

I won a M818 at Fort Lewis and had a SS member look at yesterday in order to help me plan the recovery. Due to some current unexpected financial problems my plan was to drive my M1009 the 550 miles to Fort Lewis and flat tow it home. The truck looks great and the inspection shows that my plan should work. My problem now is when I looked at the pics the SS member took it appears that someone has stolen the mudflaps off of it. I do not want to tow my freshly painted M1009 behind the M818 without them.

So if any one has a set for sale or know where I can get some I would be very gratetful.

Some member just recently added some flaps...homemade to their 818

The mudflaps on my 818s are the same style as some civilian tractors. they are square stock about half inch.Most commercial truck parts stores have them.

The hangers at a store are about $60 bucks and then $30 For the flaps. I know Keith is between a rock and a hard spot financially and the mud flaps were on his truck when he was awarded the truck. So I hope someone can help out.

there is a guy on ebay selling the correct military kit but it's pricey. if you need something to get you home then go by the truck stop and bolt um on.

That is a bummer that someone absconded with your mud flaps.
I was hoping to find some goodies in the toolbox of my M35A2C, but it was empty.
The only thing I found was a half eaten Sarah Lee cookie, 2 bottles of Propel and an empty burrito wrapper.

BTW - I used to have 20 acres out of Darby, always liked the Bitterroot Valley!

NEWFDAD Mine also got "Liberated" so I got an 8 ft 2x4 and a couple old mudflaps and nailed the mudflaps to the 2x4 and tied it accross the rear part of the frame, Never had any problems at all. We use this on a lot of our trucks when moving them but we also made a better set with a 8 ft piece of angle iron and a few bungee straps. Looks haywire but works and nobody gets itchie fingers

I had a piece of channel iron that i C-clamped to the back of my M818, then i just bolted a set of flaps to that.
You really don't need much a 2X4 would work. You just have to get a set of flaps they aren't that much.

If you go the 2x4 route, might want to consider the hard plastic type. these can be had for $10 or less. plus they wont crawl up on the tire. the end of the frame rail is forward of the rear of the drive tire and this may allow the flap to come in contact with the tire when just using the temp flap bracket.

there is one more thing.
without full fenders on the 818, anything you pull behind it will get blasted anyway.
may want to rig up a rock shield like the over size guys use when they pull the escort vehicle behind the semi.

When i got mine home i got a set of spring hangers off of Ebay. They weren''t too much I think lik $30. You probably still have the frame mounts.

You could get a piece of bar stock and bend it for the flaps as well. that would be a cheaper route. the military ones were not spring hangers.

OD_COYOTE It took a "power bar" or two to get those out of there! But they are worth it.! I will get the pics of that up today!

Reub- I'm working on several different plans for the recovery. I would like to get it by early next week. One other option is to contact GL, put in a claim for the stolen mudflaps and when they deny it, back out of the deal. That is not really what I want to do, but with cost of recovery going up and money being tight, it might be the responsible thing to do. I am not broke or going to lose my house, like so many others in country, but I do hope my wife find employment soon.
