Must be a repopped data plate.. The original data plate would have yielded the mfr and year. The bad news is I can't tell you exactly what year it is. I'd guess 1954. The good news is that I can assure you it's a Studebaker. The "M" on the front is a dead give away. I currently own M30708 and just sold M32558 and both were 1953 Studes.

What changes, if any, were made to the soft top to hand the M66 mount? I have seen metal cab tops fitted with several variations on a gunner's hatch, but I always wondered what was (or is) done with the soft tops. If you look at most U1300L military Unimogs with hard tops (Virtually all of them for what I've seen) they are fitted at the factory with a gunners hatch on the right or left side, opposite wherever the driver's seat is on that particular unit....:D I wish I had the $$$$$ to pry the gunners ring and mounts away from you, but many others on here have much deeeeeeper pockets!
I've got a soft top truck that had a ring mount (They crudely cut it off before it sold on GL). It was a standard soft top and the only mods to the truck was the reinforcement plate on the back of the cab. I'm assuming that to use the ring on soft top trucks you have to remove the top.

Yeah I figured the plate has been changed plus it says M35A2 on the plate. Well it sounds like I'm getting closer to having the info I need to apply for my title. At this point should I be assuming that it is not #6 like some one else mentioned?

Also what do these rings and mounts go for on the market just out of curiosity?

So at this point id the consensus that this is a 53 or 54 Studebaker. I would like to try to get my paperwork in today if possible.

Just an observation, In the picture of your deuce it looks like the headlights are in the "upper" position, compare to this picture of a 1965 M35A2.

All of the "early" year deuces that I have run across in the DRMO / Surplus yards seem to keep the lower headlight position, even when converted to A2's. It seems most of the 1966 and older trucks are like this, but I could be wrong.
