Hard to tell vehicle spacing in the desert. The flatness of the terrain plays tricks on your mind. Anyone who had driven to Ft Irwin, and has seen the "ten mile stretch" of road will agree.. It doesnt look like 10 miles, but it is...

The other thing to point out is that a HEMTT does not sit very high off of the ground (not ground clearance...but the actual height of the truck). The roof is below the height of an M939 series truck, for instance. Maybe, someone could check the specs if they have the manuals handy.

Maybe some crafty motorpool Sgt has figured out that you can run 1600 on HEMTT wheels upon the M813 and has done so on that 813. The tread pattern is identical to the HEMTT.

Agreed, and it looks very much like the 800 series 5 tons that Oshkosh Equipment has for sale that are outfitted with HEMTT rims and tires.

It is definitely a Marine Corps Convoy also by looking at the ISO bed on the truck in front. I am thinking location might be 29 Palms.

RE: Marines

Could be right, Halftrack. I was so busy looking at the overall shot that I didn't notice that there's no spare tire showing. That means it's probably an LVS, not a HEMTT.

RE: Marines

And seeing as how there are none of those old style trucks still in the Marine Corps, the picture has to be at least a few years old...

This M816 came from 29 Palms, whatever tank battalion is up there (can't remember the name)... it is the one that I was asking for the power divider drive shaft for.

It is an LVS, Jones. Check out the smaller grill on it. Also, I notice that LVS usually have the little headlight guards over the headlight openings on the skidplates. I've never seen that feature on any other hemtt. Not a bad idea, though. Might have to fab up a set for mine.
