hey eveyone. Im looking into getting a Deuce, but have questions on what is the best route to take on buying one. On the Government Liquidation site its wanting me to fill out a CUE Form. Im not sure what that is, Im a american and dont ever plane to sell something over seas. Anyway on that site where would be the best place to get one at? on Eastern side of US. Also how would I go about getting one back home? could it be drove or have to be hauled? Also what about the SF-97 form? is this something that I would have to send in and get a Vin # so that way I could get tags? I love these trucks and have done alot of reading on here about them, and Have looked at a few here close to home but there just way to expensive. around 8-12k for a decent truck I just dont see that kind of money in one when they sale alot cheaper on Auctions.

Thanks alot guys, sorry for the questions that prolly been asked like a million times but I couldnt find all I wanted to know in one spot.

I meant EUC Form and how it works. If I was to place a high bidder What would I have to go through to get a truck home? like is it normal to drive one out or have to be hauled?

Most bases will let you drive them out but if you don't go and inspect it before auction it's a crap shoot. The GL discriptions can't be trusted as to the running/driving condition of the trucks.

It's very much a risk buying on GL, slightly less of a risk on ebay, and much less hassle buying from the classifieds.

Good luck and post pics of anything you get!

BTW, don't post any links or pics to any uncoming or unended GL auctions or anything that might alter the bidding.

The EUC is just some paperwork you fill out, so the government can make sure you are okay to own surplus property.... Sort of like the background check and waiting period when you buy a gun. For most Americans born here the EUC is no problem, just a waiting period, but a few have problems with P.O. Boxes, and old criminal records.

You wouldn't think there should be such tight control of just an old cargo truck, but I understand why. When I recover a truck from GL, I usually take my deuce and towbar so if the vehicle can't be driven out I will tow it. I am always amazed at the way the guards at the entrance of the base wave me through like I belong there. I always stop and tell them I'm a civilian visitor heading to the GL lot.

Blue,
I was where you were when I first started. I didn't know where to buy or if I should buy from GL, ebay or private sale. After looking around I decided to say the "hell with it" and just bid on some Gl stuff. After bidding and losing and then bidding more it really makes it a lot of fun. After winning some Deuces from GL i think the experience is what makes it. I am still waiting for my EUC's to clear so I cant tell you how the trucks are, but this entire process of bidding, paper work and waiting really gives owning that deuce that much more passion and makes the truck that much more personal for me.

If you have some spare change laying around and don't mind that you potential could have to do some work and don't mind waiting a little for the paper work to clear, then do the GL thing, I am having a blast!!! I am like a kid at Christmas waiting to recover it.

good luck and keep us posted.
