The MAD (magnetic anomaly detection) boom out the back needs the least possible interference and the intakes on top is much like the B2 with intakes on top. Makes the plane quieter...

Well, not being an aircraft engineer I can't guarantee that to be the truth. Just that several "P3 Drivers and Operators" told me that more than once. Couldn't swear to it, but it seems very reasonable.

There is an air transport company in Alaska, that has bought up a huge share of DC-3 parts. They have a number of DC-3's and do sell to other people. Read about in in Air & Space a few years back.
Isn't there a push to install turbo props in place of the aging radials? She's lived a long and "glorious" life for a transport......
