Out of curiosity, what do they do for the "Reset" or "Refresh" program. Just go through an extensive checklist on the vehicle and freshen it up for the next tour?
For a reset, the company doing the rebuild has a set budget per vehicle, and they go through it and check all components to see if they are in spec or not. If they haven't used up the budget, they like to do things like replace the engine/transmission or other major components with rebuilt ones.

My M1123 got a rebuilt engine and transmission during reset when the originals had only a handful of miles.

There is another type of reset known as IROAN. Inspect, Repair Only As Necessary. Basically just go through the truck and fix the stuff that's broken/out of spec, as opposed to doing a full rebuild on it.

Help with the year. I just purchased an 1197R1 serial number 505395 and I cannot determine the year for the SF97. It's not on the data plate either.

Can anyone help? I called AM General, and they even looked at pictures and stayed on the phone with me for 30 minutes trying to help, but said it was reset and couldn't figure it out.

If your unit has the M1097R1 HMMWV, NSN 2320-01-346-9317, with a retrofitted engine, check the serial number before ordering a new transmission for the vehicle.

  • M1097R1 HMMWVs with serial numbers between 500000 and 549000 require the 3L80 transmission
  • Those with serial numbers between 570000 and 599000 need the 4L80E/4L85E transmission.

So basically sounds like you have a 3 speed truck, which would put you at 1993 or earlier I think?

I'd suggest just putting 1990 and calling it good. It puts your truck at over 30 years old which is more than enough for historic license plates in pretty much every state. There is no way for anyone to accurately verify the exact year, and putting it as a newer vehicle doesn't give any benefits in any state as far as I am aware.

Thanks and yes, I put 1992 on the SF 97 paperwork, which seemed close enough.

Can someone help me with my model year. Serial number is 217268. Also it was listed on GP as M1123 but when I try to buy parts on MacMotors it lists the M1123 as having a SN less than 196,XXX.

My M1123 has a serial number 201xxx and it’s a 2002. They made changes and that was the over under on the vehicles serial numbers. I think above 196,000 is the A2 version but I’m not an expert. Mac has a very limited search but they have stuff for all models. Craig is really helpful when I can’t find something. Ext 180

I'm trying to apply for my SF97 so hopefully someone can tell me exactly what year it is. I've searched online everywhere and I haven't found the typical chart that shows what the numbers mean

It doesn’t really matter what year it is. Some insurance companies require vehicle to be 20 years old or older. I have a M1165 that has a serial number 225xxx and I chose 2002 for that reason.

There is a serial number break where the trucks with serial number under 196900 use a different power steering pump and serpentine belt setup (and other some other things as well maybe, but those are the ones I am familiar with) than the trucks after 196900. Then occasionally you get the post 196900 engine in a pre 196900 truck, and all bets are off.

I found this as well and thought awesome it will help. Well i have the 3 speed 3L80 but a serial number of 601xxx so not very helpful. as for year who knows. I have a date of OCT05 stamped on it but I'm guessing thats when it was rebuilt into the 1097 and went from a 6.2 to the 6.5

Please change your location to the state you live in.
I have looked briefly but can’t seem to find this information. When registering a truck with the DMV, do you use the MFR serial number or the IROAN serial number. Should these be different. I have a M1114 with a MFR serial number that stars with 244XXX which I am guessing puts it as a 2007. While I have a IROAN of 1-11-11 with a VEH SER NO of 617XXX. If it matters this truck would be registered in North Carolina.
