I can't speak to the specs but installed one I got off ebay and they are not real thick (maybe a 1/16-1/8 ) or very heavy. They typically have a sound barrier/insulation inbetween the tailgate and the armour plus mounting holes and straps for the max ax kit.

They probably offer protection better than none but not bullet proof. YMMV

There are some on epay and pics if that helps.

In other words if you feel the need to retreat - you should back up - rather than depending on the tailgate armor?

not sure about the tailgate armor, but the "supplemental armor" panels for the X-doors is only rated for shrapnel, not bullets.

I have direct confirmation from a friend that they will stop 9mm rounds, but not to be trusted for anything faster/heavier

The divot in his door panel from where he shot it was the evidence of that.
