1987 HMMWV previously titled in another state. The vehicle is new to me.

In preparation of getting a title I will be getting the police to inspect the vehicle identification number and confirm this is a 6 digitVIN vehicle. Is there anything else I should do?

I am of course worried about getting a new title denied.

I have searched the forums and the only problem I have noted is someone who did not have a prior title (just a bill-of-sale), who was trying to get a title in New York State.

Are there any New York state HMMWV owners on this forum who know how difficult it may be to get a title?

Also, has anyone tried to title one of these vehicles as a "kit car".

TIA,

Dear Moderators,

I have come across some old posts about titling vehicles in other states, and I am worried that this topic may be against forum rules. I have seen several references to not being allowed to post about issues with title. I am confused by what exactly is not permitted, but it seems that I may have gone across a line.

Please forgive the FNG and if you feel I have gone out of bounds, you may want to delete this thread.

Either way, please personal message/PM me to let me know if I have gone out of bounds, or if I am okay.

If I am okay and this thread is acceptable, I will edit and delete this post.

If you have a title from another state and it's been sold to you, you should not have a problem.

I've titled many non conforming vin numbered vehicles with no issues.

I think the issue is trying to title off road use only vehicles for use on the street. I don't think it applies to buying a vehicle with a valid title and getting it put in your name in your state.
