JT,
If you are good at metalwork you can make your own. All you need is a 24v blower motor, a heater core, some sheet metal, some heater hose, a couple of spickets that fit the engine block, some angle iron, two pieces of ducting, some electrical wire and a switch and you are in business. All you need to make is a metal box to mount the core after the blower motor hole a top for the box with two holes for the core to reach the heater hose and bracing to mount the box on in the engine compartment. It shouldn't take but a Saturday morning to do it and all the parts can be purchased locally.

JT!

See if you can find the information for John Winslow Sales, in North Carolina!

He did have some complete kits in the past!

Sorry that I don't have his contact info! Maybe someone else has it!

Hello out there!

As a newcomer to the MV livestyle (and former lurker), if one DOES get their hands on a winterization kit, how long can they take for someone with basic mechanical skills to install, and are any special tools required? (The Mrs. had a few choice words for me when she found out my "winter truck" won't have heat.)

Opie!

It isn't too difficult to install the Military heater, but don't expect warm and toasty!

The heater is marginal, and will keep you from freezing to death, but that is all!

I don't know how cold it gets in your part of Virginia, but up here in the Northern Midwest, it is only marginal!

I have been considering one of those portable propane heaters! It is called the Buddy Heater!

If you use one, you must provide ventilation, but with a rag top Deuce, there is PLENTY of ventilation!

My soon-to-be truck WAS a hardtop, but was changed to a convertible
before I made an offer.

Perhaps you won't hear my teeth chattering with the -1C singing away!

after driving my truck in many single digit mornings lately, I can say I NEED the heater. It's really not so bad it deters me from driving, but it does get damn cold in there. On the upside, it's so full of holes that it defrosts itself, the bad news is that it's by freezing air instead of warm air

ANY heat will be better than none

not too long ago there was an NOS M35 heater kit on eBay with every little piece for $200, I don't believe it sold. I wasn't looking for the complete NOS one at the time so didn't bid, then when I got outbid on the M35 heater core assembly I was mad Might come up again soon

seems I acted to soon. I spoke with Angie @ Colemans...they do have one more NOS kit...and its on its way to me as we speak. Saturn has them ( I confirmed this)...but its 65 bucks more than Colemans, and it does not come with the brackets. I thought shipping was really gonna hurt (54 pounds)..but its only 43 bucks...and thats PA to AZ. I cant wait to be warm(er) cruising in the forest.

Jeepthrills,

You lucky duck! I called Coleman's yesterday to confirm and they said, "Yep. We're out."

Hope it all turns out well!

Thanks. It's an apropriate nickname as there's a certain resemblance, only now as one of my friends once said, "You look like Opie went out and grew a beard so he could buy beer!"

Anything wrong with that?

Ok. I didn't realize they actually had them in stock.

Seems a nuisance Uncle Sam didn't think to include the shelf in the kit. (I'm unfortunately not skilled in metal fabrication.)

Things aren't so hopeless after all...

It doesnt get all that cold in Va anyway, does it?. Maybe a few nights in the 30's, and what 3 inches of snow per year?

I am really kicking myself for not getting it earlier. We have already had 36 inches of snow in town, and close to 5 feet on the mountain. I still am waiting to get my front driveline back from the driveshaft shop, so I have only been able to go out on the road. With heat and a front driveline I will be going wayyyy out in the forest!!
