Newish to the site. I actually joined some time ago, but it took a while until I was able acquire the equipment I was looking for. I'm putting together a portable military generator/communications tower, mounted on a Vietnam era dolly.

My dad belongs to the local ECS and I plan on joining MARS in the near future. I have my general license for HF but only have UHF/VHF equipment now.

BTW..if I can't find high speed 6.50-10 tires pretty soon for this dolly, I'm gonna take a flight to Mars! It appears the tire industry and me have a difference of opinion of what "high speed" means.

At any rate..looking forward to picking your brains. ;)

Yeah, speed will generate heat and a small tire does not have the surface area to dissipate that heat. I think you will be looking at blowing out those tires real quick on the road.

Ha! Yeah. I found something close that will work. But I'm going to have to change the rims was well to tubeless. The problem is on small rims is getting any kind of decent weight rating out of them for high speed tires. 10" rims seem to be the best size for the max tire weight capacity for a small tire. After that, is really jumps up to a 14" to 15" rim to get near 1,800 lbs or more. Thats nice, but the tire size really jumps as well, near 29" to 30" in diameter, instead of 25" or smaller. Having the oddball 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern doesn't help much either.
