I would crack open your wallet and just buy a new fuel tank otherwise you will be singing the blues when the repair ultimately fails.

Plastic (high-density polyethylene HDPE) as a fuel tank material of construction, while functionally viable in the short term, has a long term potential to become saturated as fuels such as diesel and gasoline permeate the HDPE material.

Typically, plastic fuel tanks are made from these five different materials: high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), regrind plastic (recycled polyethylene), a plastic adhesive or ethyl vinyl alcohol (EVOH). These storage tanks can be formed by rational molding or blow molding processes.

Replace the tank or drive in a bomb, just do not allow that stuff to get into the envirnment.

To seal a plastic gas tank with epoxy glue, start by draining the tank and letting it dry. Then, sand the area around the hole or crack with coarse grit sandpaper, and clean it with a cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol. Next, mix the epoxy glue, apply it over the opening, and press a fiberglass patch over the epoxy.

and We really don not know what it is made of

Hi I have bought a $60 new fuel tank but to ship to uk is $800 plus import duty and 20% tax on purchase price and shipping costs and the cheapest available this side is from holland and that's $500 .
So the $60 new fuel tank will be shipped one of the Humvee I have in the us but will be a few months away that why I would like to get the old tank repaired so it can still be used till the new one arrives.

GB has great fabricators. I bet one of them might, for a reasonable price, might make you an entire new tank out of metal.

I read on G503 that the Humvee fuel tank is made from Polypropylene. But no way to verify that unless you sacrifice a piece of a tank and do some chemical analysis.
But if your tank is punctured anyway, maybe have them weld in a piece of PP. Then do a pressure test with water. If the welds crack, it wasn´t PP (or a bad welder)
