Humvee starter

My starter stopped working. It tries but it sounds like the teeth are worn. I ordered a new one. I have a floor jack and a friend to help me install. Any tips on getting the old one out or the new one in? Thx for everyones time.

You need to inspect the flywheel (flex plate) teeth, many times there will be a bed spot necessitating the replacement of the flex plate

On an automatic transmission the "flywheel" is called a flex plate, you would need to drop the transmission to replace, rotate the engine slowly while inspecting the teeth on the flex plate.
First remove the dust cover and see what is going on, if you see something post some pics.

I spent 2 weeks at the NTC in CA at a maint. shop and all I did was change flex plates, they came to us with the cross over pipe already removed, we just un bolted the transmission mount, bell housing and slid it back and jammed a 3/8 drive socket to keep it spaced back just enough to get a wrench to remove the bolts from the crank. We did 3 a day, and there were no shortage of them, all had bad teeth in one or two spots.
