Florida evacuations, airport closures and floods: 15M to be affected as Hurricane Ian gathers strength

Ian-coming! Girding for what Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has called a “major” hurricane, Florida officials issued mandatory evacuation orders for various counties on Monday.

Ian has tracked a little to the east, and Tampa is now expecting 5-10 ft storm surge and torrential rains which could cause substantial flooding.

Revised estimates show direct landfall in Tampa, downtown including the hospital is expected to be flooded... Now expected to land as Cat 3.

Hurricanes can be a bit dicey to predict as conditions continue to change. In this case I'd plan for the worse if you're in the path in which it's predicted.

Hope he will be ok as it is not looking good for that area. Me pretty far inland from both coast lines but yea winds and rain for me. Got the main sail down and batten down the hatches is about all I can do. Plenty of water and food on hand and 8K light tower Gen. ground hooked up and ready to go in case of power outage.

I have family there. One cousin lives in New Smyrna Beach, the other cousin somewhere close to Daytona Beach. A good friend in the Tampa area, but I think she recently moved a bit more inland and more northerly. So I am watching this from far away, but it sure looks scary.

Yep. He already sent me pics of his mangled fence, and downed palm trees. He lost power also.

He did get all the storm shutters up and was prepped with food and water and other essentials.

All good here just rain and some wind. It did clear the dead palm branches from my palm trees. Looks like there are many that were not so lucky.
