If you have a stock engine and don't plan on doing much with the truck but sprucing it up and paint and tires and canvas and parades...then take care of the tornado, keep the revs down and you'll generally be happy.
(M715 purists may skip ahead here. ) If you have one that's hurt, pull it out and sell it to the above owners and they'll get some good odds and ends off of it. Those engines were really just not designed for that much gear and correspondingly that much rpm. With the plethora of engines available and later over drive transmissions...its just a satisfying way to make the truck more streetable, capable, and fun.
