any thing i need to think about when telling a local shop for a new or rebuilt tranny? Most shops have never heard of a m1008! Any key difference in th400 we have as opposed to civilain model?

Thanks

They need to know it's a diesel and which transfer case you have.

Not everyone has access to a flush machine,
And not everybody likes them. Some folks think they cause more harm than good.

Another way I have heard of is to flush is to disconnect your trans cooler lines from the radiator, and stick the line coming FROM the trans into a waste bucket, and the line going back TO the trans into a bucket of clean fluid. Then run the engine for a bit.

You basically dump the old fluid into the waste bucket, and let the trans suck up fresh fluid from a clean container.

This is supposed to flush all the old crud out of the system without the problems that are supposed to come from high pressure flushes.

probably the best approach to do a good flush with no additive or detergents. I'm not one to recommend drilling a hole in the torque converter either to flush it. Believe it or not, that is an old school method and using a rivet when you are done to plug the hole. Written in the GM factory manual...yikes!

Well, old school stuff is sometimes very smart, and sometimes.... interesting. :-D

$1450?

You can buy a Monster for less.

Of course, that doesn't include the R&R labor, so $1450 doesn't sound too bad.

But I wouild not trust that TC! Who knows what's floating around in it? For the price of a new one, I would not risk it.
definitely have me bent over.going to take a look today. Claims he is only going to use the case and that everything else will be rebuilt brand new. 12 month warranty is well

When my transmission went, truck started shaking wildly going up a hill near my house and then would only proceed at a crawl speed. Went to a specialist tranny, diff shop that everyone local recommended. It was toast, parts of torque converter had come apart, metal bits everywhere inside. Was around $1400, everything new, including HD torque converter and a aux oil cooler. They told me not to use the internal rad trans cooler as they couldn't properly flush all the metal and contaminants out of it.
