Just won the bid on a "2023" LMTV M1078A1. I contacted Iron Planet concerned that the Vehicle was much older than represented and they stated the NSN# states 2023 which is obviously a mistake. Any help in determining the real "year"? Thanks.

Hello your VIN: A-T020200BFDN Breaks down as follows.

A- = LMTV CARGO
T = Troop Seat Kit
020200 = Unit (Serial) Number
B = Camoflage, Green 383
F = M005 A1 Model
D = April
N = 2003

My truck and trailer are both very close in serial number to yours:

020793 Truck June 2003
020833 Trailer June 2003

I used the following decoder I found on the interwebs.

The plate shown must be wrong, the engine is EPA 1999.
You're likely to have a hell of a time with DMV. There's no way they're going to take any date other than what's on the data plate. And DMV just loves to say "NO!" I had an M818 that said "SUV" for vehicle type and "Gasoline" for the fuel. I was trying to title and plate it in AZ, and had the truck with me. They wouldn't correct it with the truck right in front of them.

No antique plates for you....

There may be the option of getting a blank data plate and making it whatever you want it to be but the seventh and eighth characters of the contract date reflect the year the contract was signed and for this truck that appears to be 1998......

But the titling documents from GP are going to say 2023.

And I'd be reluctant to get a blank data plate for purposes of changing (even erroneous) information. Too easily construed as felony VIN tampering.

Yea I would go with the VIN info lostchain listed and a reference for how that Information is broken down.

You could also pull up your engine info by entering the serial number into cats website. That should give you the build configuration and production year information for the engine. That info should be in the ballpark with the VIN info. Depending on how production was running at that time though, they may not be the same year. My engine was produced and delivered to S&S more than a year before the production date of my truck…

Also as mentioned, S&S has been gone for a while. You should be able to find a history online of the LMTV contract and production(dates and manufacturers), that show that it is not possible for them to have produced this vehicle in 2023…

Allison should also be able to confirm production date of the transmission S/N…
