In-tank fuel pump?

I have a few questions I like to run buy some of you for your answers, when I removed my in tank fuel pump from the tank I read that in the TM's and it mentioned that the total length of the ITFP should read 13.1 or 14.1. so I measured mine an I have 15.5 is this height ok, when I drove the truck it seemed ok. and another question that bothers me is on the fuel in tank pump there are two wires that are spliced with the ordinary wire splice that are not water proof or in this case not fuel proof, wouldn't this be a safety concern? and what can I use to make it safe. This is for a multi fuel M35A2.thanks

The length is for fuelling above any contamination..water etc. The wires INSIDE the fuel tank and running to the electric 'motor' portion at the bottom of the assembly MOST CERTAINLY ARE SHIELDED! and surrounded with a steel mesh coating.

I believe that 3M makes shrink tubing with glue on the inside which melts when you shrink it.
If it were mine I would get a length of tubing that would cover the entire length of the wire.
not just over the splice. The proper way would be to find the correct replacement wire.
