Not to mention,if you didn't tell them everything or maybe fibbed a bid on your insurance.....it is basically null and void! They don't have to pay up if say,you have a blow out on the hghway and side swipe a car or van. That is why I pay $450 a year for Progressive insurance on a 14,000lb truck with a GVW of 24,000lbs used for personal use only.If some idiot cuts me off and a park on top of them I am covered!Even if they screwed up and gave you auto insurance on your Commercial truck they can pull some stunts and leave you will all the other guys repair bills, hospital bills, legal bills, etc.
What exactly is covered. And is your truck used for towing or anything? Also how are you plated?

I insured my S10 and M1009 with Progressive and they called me back and dropped my Blazer
from a personal auto policy because it was military, they told me that I could get a commercial
policy on it. So I went to Erie insurance they insured both of my trucks for less than Progressive and for the same coverage, even got a better deal when I listed the Blazer as a "pleasure" vehicle. Called about insurance on my deuce and they said sure no problem just no
comprehensive.

Pretty much you ain't gonna get "Useable" non-Commercial insurance. Most of time when you get a standard policy they are under the impression you have a jeep pickup truck not a 14,000Lb straight truck. That is why I made sure the agents know exactly what they are insuring.Cause if you end up driving down the road and Pot smoking joe pulls out in front of you and you park the front axle on his arse, what will the insurance company do when they read the report and figure out that the policy was not on a pickup truck but a commercial size truck?Dump you and tell you that they ain't paying since you didn't disclose correct information to them!

Well called USAA today and they are insuring one of my 1970 M109A3 Kaiser Jeep Shop Vans, this was/is an experiment, gave them the Vin, they ran it no problem, checked with a supervisor, no problem....
added a little over 100 to my policy every 6 months.....pleasure use only, less than 5000 miles per year
The model M109A3 is on the insurance card along with the vin...

What do you all think?

I went with Gulfway, $140 a year for 300k coverage. They were very fast and accepted the GL pictures for the application. Yes, I'm expecting to go through a house or over a Bentley.
:ditto: except I think mine was $119 a year...

insurance

I have insurance with Erie on my S10 and M1009. Called them when I got the Deuce home
and gave them all the specs. on the truck: number of wheels, wt empty, wt if fully loaded on the road, and anything else that she wanted or I thought she needed to know. And they came back 2 days later and quoted me $488/yr for 300K worth of coverage for Commercial Personal Use.

I've got my M139 5-ton insured with EMC on a commercial policy for $126 annually. This is for $300,000 of liability and under/uninsured coverage. I have all my vehicles and my house insured through them also, but on a different policy, so I am not getting any discounts on the truck. I did not have to provide any pictures, and was able to add it over the phone.

It is listed as a "Diamond-T M139 Army" on the insurance card, so there shouldn't be any issues with mis-representation.

I'm not sure that my two cents counts, but I'd suggest checking Nationwide Mutual/Colonial County Insurance Co, out of CAnton, OH, as they insure my M35A2 as a non-commercial pickup truck with regular plates at $197.00 every six months. They know what the vehicle is, having been given specifications, weights and a front 3/4 photograph of it. I don't know how they'll react to a 5- 10 ton truck, but the Deuce is listed as a 2-1/2 to 5 ton truck, but they also handle my Mercedes Benz S404.114 Unimog (Swiss), and gave me a collision/liability rate lower then on my 1989 Ford F20FWD, due to these two types of trucks not getting into many accidents.

Good Luck,

Sincerely,
Kyle F. McGrogan

Response:
This is Justin Schmitt in corporate communications at USAA. We can help you obtain insurance coverage for military vehicles that are under 10,000 lbs., kept in an enclosed garage, and are for pleasure use. The vehicle needs to be in good condition. Call USAA at 800-531-USAA request “auto” and “representative” and then ask to speak with collector’s vehicle specialist.

Good luck!
