Is the gland hand valve a common part?

I found the air leak, the valve for the emergency side glad hand got bent back when the truck got backed into a tree. It's the brass shut off valve so its the weakest link back there. It made the threads on one end oval and it's also been cross threaded so the part is toast. Have any of you ever had to replace this part? I'm hoping this is something that a plumbing supply place will carry. I'm also gonna replace the glad hand, I'm sure NAPA would have that.

It's 1/2NPT. Mine was missing and I had to chase the threads. It now has a ball valve on it.
eventually I'll replace it with the original style valve that has the handle in the correct position.

Yeah I would just replace it with an appropriate sized ball valve. You could get one just about anywhere: Lowe's, Home Depot, Tractor Supply. Now the glad hand, I'm not too sure about but I've seen sets at Pilot Stations and I think Tractor Supply as well.

My 66 was straight out of a local NG motorpool (verified by Carnac) and it has one original valve and one ball valve.

So it don't think it matters. It would be nice to have the original valves.

Well I got a ball valve at Lowe's out of the plumbing dept., It works-no leak now. It's not nearly as heavily built as the orginal part, don't know how it would hold up if I had a trailer hooked up all the time. It should be ok though. I went to Advance for the glad hand, they don't carry them. So I'll go to NAPA today and get two. That way I can make an adapter for an air hose. I think I'll hang on to the original valve, maybe I can find a way to fill in the threads a retap it for a spare part.

Just make sure you get a universal gladhand. The new emergency gladhands(red color) have a pin that makes sure it will only connect to other emergency gladhands. The universal fits both the emergency side and the service side.

i replaced my valves on mt M35A2 with regular ball valves from lowes. just something to think about, be careful on the left side to make sure you have enough room to hook up the glad hands. on my M109A3, there was not enough room for me to hook up the glad hand on my trailer when i went to pick it up. i forget if i can bend it down a little bit so it clears the bumperette or not. just something to think about. maybe the length of the valve was different from the new ball valve and the old one. anybody have input on this?

The thing about the stock valves is that they are "backwards" from every other quarter turn valve I've ever seen. A standard ball valve should work fine though.

Well. I bought two so I have one that will fit on the new one if I have a problem. I have the second one set up to accept an air hose, but I could just unscrew the air chuck if I had to hook up a trailer that doesn't fit. I didn't notice any pin though.

another thing i did when i put mine on is tried to have the shaft of the ball valve point down hill... my thought to this was that maybe it will help with corrosion as water will not try to run down the shaft and corrode something. it could be maybe im just too fussy..... who knows if it even works, but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, so who cares, right?:)
