This week I was able to bring (3) of the M915A1's home from the GL lot in Jeff City. Some friends (Hairba11 and another who's not on the forum) and I went up on Tuesday morning to get them.
As usual, Mike Snell, the GL rep, was fantastic. He had the trucks staged, and was there waiting for us. He waited around while we left w/ one of the trucks to drop off (approx 45 minutes), and then came back for the other 2. I had my own keys (and had told him that), but he had keys made up for the trucks where they were missing.
They had moved the trucks from the off-base lot, to a lot located on-base, but it wasn't a big deal, it's less then 1/2 mile away.
One of the trucks started right up, the other 2 needed a jump. all 3 trucks needed mud flaps, but that was it.
Goodies included slave cables (2 of them!), inflators, jacks, lug wrenches, brand new manuals, amongst others. (2) of the trucks have (11) brand new 11-22.5 tires and full fuel tanks!
One truck had a minor fuel leak, but I was able to drive it home on Saturday with no problem.
We parked 1 truck at Hairba11's dad's house (the one w/ the fuel leak) and then drove the other 2 home.
The one that I drove on Tuesday screams, and will accelerate all the way to the redline (approx 70 mph). The other one has a shake in the back around 62 mph, so we kept it around 60 mph. Only issues were a shredded fan belt on the shaker, but I didn't even notice until we got home (no overheating) as well as no lights.
Driving impressions? These things ride like a d@mn Cadillac! Easy to steer, lots of power, and great visibility. No earplugs needed! The air brakes are touchy, and do require a little getting used to, but they will stop the truck on a dime. The transmission shifts firmly (and downshifts more firmly), but otherwise is nice. Much easier for a novice to drive then the 16 speed in the M915 or M920.
All 3 of these trucks are TX depot rebuilds in '07, so condition is excellent. All the trucks at the sale were depot rebuilds, so they sold for approx $1k-$2k more then the Topeka, KS trucks.
According to Mike, we were the 2nd group to pick the trucks up. There were 2 guy's from western Nebraska there that same morning picking 2 trucks up and driving them back.
I have one more left, but it came from the 2nd round, so the EUC hasn't cleared, yet.
