Been taking it out every, to every other weekend to try and root out any issues that weren't obvious on immediate inspection, and everything has been holding tight. Only gripe is the right cotter pin to the cab cradle likes to walk out if you get too frisky, so looking into some remedies for that, but otherwise been great so far. (... and if anyone has a window crank knob I could still use that!)
What cotter pin? Do you have a pic?

Don't a pic of it specifically, but it's this one (from the TMs ... same side amazingly enough):

Looks like the spring-loaded piece on the end of that pin is sticking, so I figure I'll just get another, or make a more secure holding mechanism. Easy fix regardless.

Ok. I was hoping you weren’t pinning the air bags down. So it’s only in the stowed position you are having the problem?

Yep, stays in until you start jostling the cab too violently. As I said though, easy fix. New pin or a steel bracket can put a stop to that. Even though the left one is holding, I'll probably put a sturdier retainer on that one as well.

But you’re not SUPPOSED to pin the cab especially when off road. That is for shipping only. It should only be stowed not pinned to keep the air bags from working.

Well today I learned ... The thing was kind of half-hammered in when I got it, so checked the docs, and first result must have been related to shipping. Led me to believe it needed to be installed. Good to know that's one less thing to do.

Very nice rig - not only the upgrade lights, but also a nice newer-style grill in the front.
I can see one reason it's not a runner: the rear drive shaft disassembled in the cab. First thing I'd find a good truck driveline shop and take the shaft down for rebuild. Probably do the front as well at the same time.
Then inspect the engine for missing parts, like alternator nuts and bolts, and the bolts for the bracket between the air compressor and the power steering pump. That was severely messed up on my truck, but got noticed and fixed in short order.
Welcome, and enjoy!
Good call on the drive line. Mine was out of phase on the front shaft. Believe someone removed mine for some reason and pulled it apart and stuck it back together three splines off. Nice job someone but next time you do not have to pull them apart like you did and then put it back in the truck!! I just took my best guess and rotated it counter clockwise the three splines, put it together and took it for a ride. Must have gotten lucky with the balance and the rotation as there is no vibration and runs smooth.

Not many updates so far, outside of routine maintenance. Mostly shop-hunting, as I'm starting to tire of the shadetree life, rolling around in a bed of goatheads every time I need to get under the truck ... ouch!

On the other hand, been working on tidying up the interior a bit, and still can't seem to get the dash as clean as I see some of yours. Any tricks up your sleeves, or are you all just repainting the whole thing to get 'em looking that nice?

Im the meantime, attached are a couple pics of me crashing my local BMW chapter's meetup for shits and giggles, and a great example of why an MV makes for a great viewing platform at a car show!

The Bimmer drivers aren't going to say a thing (likely);

- But you know everyone of them is nursing "truck envy" whne you pull up

They got a massive kick out of it. Anything out of the ordinary really, is always a hit. One of the guys actually has an E30 he's converted into a turbo-diesel pickup. I'll grab some pics at the meetup tonight and post them up!

E30 Frankentruck, as promised.

Guy in our club started it when he got his hands on a dead husk of a 324td for $500. Found a decent M21 turbodiesel, dropped a Cummins turbo in it, then carved the whole thing into a pickup. Even fabricated a working tailgate! Local BMW chapter is super laid back (we're fans of anything with wheels that runs and drives) so we love it when he shows up with this to the 'fancy' meets and turns up some noses.

Plans on getting the bed in, and giving it a paint job, so hopefully can see it finished this summer.

Excellent!

Am I seeing that right (second pic), is that an air filter actually ON the turbo, so the turbo is the intake?
Yep, that's correct. Apparently the turbo is a bit too big anyway, only spools effectively around 3000 RPM ... a feat that old diesel is loathe to do, so he's reworking that portion, and is hoping to have a slightly more elegant solution later on.

Shameless cross-promotion that I'm giving away my troop seats! :)

I wish I had a shop that size for my 1995 M1078 truck! I work outside in the snow on mine. Not the first time I restored a truck in the same spot all winter long! Least I have a dry area to paint and repair parts to it. I assembled it outside it did not fit in the Tent!! Had to build the Bed in parts and drill it out by hand to bolt together. That was a real chore and a ton of holes to all line up and be even!! I built the Bed and hydraulic system myself one of my harder jobs to do by myself! I did have the steel bent at a local welding shop. That is a 10 ft long bed to bend up they have a big press!DSCF6121.JPGdump bed 11.jpg
