So, I was able to find an axle from Dexter. They have a part number that looks like it was almost made for the M101 trailers. It is a 5200lb axle, 3" tube, electric brakes, 63.50" hub face, 43.25 spring center with 6x5.5 bolt pattern. The only thing it is missing is a parking brake, but I can make due. Here is the part number: TS52635432655EEC. Just in case there is anyone else looking to perform this swap.

I can help facilitate any donation to the National WWII museum as I am in New Orleans. They have at least 2 dodge power wagons or predecessors of the era. I don't recall the model numbers offhand....

Those rims could be original. Not sure if the original m101 had combat wheels?

You have a M101 which is even earlier than the M101a1. What are the 2 brackets on the wheel wells on the the inside of the bed? Pic?
Good afternoon, I just posted in the "Pay it Forward" section of the forums as I am now looking to donate the axle and wheel assembly. Is this something that you would still be interested in? I am quite a way from New Orleans though, Plant City, Florida.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Could you see if the wheels are really 2 piece bolt apart or has the wheel been modified with an original center piece and a custom adapter made to fit the original bolt circle? Hope this makes sense. The pictures on your pay it forward are difficult for me to see if it is an original older combat rim or a modified /adapted wheel made to fit.

I could get a freight quote to ship just the wheels/tires on a pallet double stacked with a ratchet strap but wanted to make sure what i am looking at. Feel free to PM me to continue dialogue.
