What part number are you using for the 3/4" NPT block heater? I ordered two of the Kats 11619 block heaters from NAPA and, while the book claims 600W, the actual heater element is labeled 400W.

I am trying to figure out where I am going to put my block heater. I just got the brand new Kats 11619 off e-bay for $12 shipped.[thumbzup] Now, I haven't tried it but the heater element looks to be a bit long to fit here (see white arrow in pic). Has anyone placed this heater here? I don't want to place the heater element where the heater hose return is b/c makes me a bit nervous having it so close to the water pump.

I just saw this pic of a GL deuce. Hmm, is that a block heater on the thermostat housing? Is this a possible location for a block heater? Would this cause premature opening of the thermostat?

That is the temp switch for an ether start kit.

I installed the block heater, refilled the coolant. It sizzled for a second or two and made a popping sound......

I guess that there could have been an air bubble in the water pump but I am still a bit surprised (and disappointed) at how short lived it was.

I understood that and the coolant was replaced. It looked more like there was a short circuit between the actual element and the copper housing as it burned a 1/8" hole through through the housing.

I have had the same problem with the kats 3/4" heater threaded into the water pump, I've been thru 2 elements, ran the truck for 30 min. to clear air then shut down, plugged in heater then the same sizzling and it lost continuity between terminals. The copper shows signs of rubbing against the water pump inards half way down the copper. I am confused and irritated because I checked around and others are installing heaters in this same location. When I replaced the head gaskets I had checked the inside of this port and saw that it would be a clear install for the kats heater. Now What?aua

The freeze plug style scares the crap out of me! I saw a video of a guy installing the threaded style in this same spot, what gives? Is there another 3/4 thread location, what did I miss that all the other threaded guys use? I am also not sure now of my correct personel heater hose locations. It works but reading another thread makes me second guess myself.

There is a tm about how not to the the heater hoses. If they are in the upper locations they cause the thermostat to be bypassed. Each has it's good and bad. i tried it one way now its time to try the other the freeze plugs are easy enough to get to if it doesn't work out i will just put a plug back in there.Either one can fail .Freeze plug type is more likely to leak or pop out. the only two threaded locations i know you can use is the one in the water pump and the one just about the water pump..

I just looked at my truck and I have been bypassing the thermostat with the personel heater! I never even thought of this till now, no wonder it takes forever to warm up the engine, I'll need to check the TM's for a proper location. Will the 600W kats thread into and have clearance on the port above the water pump at the thermostat?<where I now have the 2nd heater hose>
