LD465 vs LDT465 differences

I did a search and didn't find anything really explaining the differences b/w the LD465-1A vs. LDT465-1C,1D engines in a M35A2. Besides the obvious of one w/turbo and one without, what are the differences b/w the two? Are there any major reliability issues? Are there any benefits to an LD465 over the LDT465? Is there a reason why some deuces still have the LD465 coming out of GL w/out a turbo added? Are headgaskets an issue on the LD? Thanks in advance, just curious

Subtle differences throughout the family like filter location, turbo or not and things like improved cylinder wall squirters.
Here's a pretty good read on all things Multifuel though it is an older pub.
Those things are kind of neat to read. I don't quite understand the reindeer or Santa Clause, but whatever. Is there an archive of them or where do you find them?

We got both of our 1968 M35A2's in 2004. Both trucks had under 20K miles and came from the Texas National Guard.
The serial #'s were 52 digits apart. Both trucks looked identical, same paint, had soft tops, etc, except:

One was a W/W with a non-turbo engine with no rebuild tags or markings on the engine or body.

The other was a W/OW with a "C" turbo, and had numerous rebuild tags and markings on the engine and body.

The engines look identical except for the turbo and the exhaust. We added a "D" turbo to the non-turbo a few months back and re-timed the fuel pump to turbo engine specs.

I've always wondered if the W/OW originally was a non-turbo and was converted/rebuilt.......

Was it a noticeable differnce in HP after adding the turbo ?

From what we can tell, yes, I've seen other posters say it doesn't make a difference.....

I figure the non-turbos were trucks that simply never went through a depot because they never were in bad enough shape to need them, or were assigned to non-Army or reserve units. We had a M35A2C dropside Deuce with no turbo in my Naval Reserve Unit; it was issued to us in 2002. The truck had been in Navy custody for years. A lot of the Navy trucks were non-turbo. We had a C-turbo REO M109 that we acquired from DRMO which was much older than the M35A2C , and at the time I thought turbo trucks were the exception. When I started bidding on them, I found that to be incorrect.

From what I remember the differences are in the cam and oil cooled pistons and timing. The pump is turned up higher and the newer LDS engines have a "D" turbo.

To drop in a deuce you have to install the oil pump bottom of pan plumbing from an LDS and reverse the oil pan. The oil pump and pan are the same. The LDT bell housing and flywheel must be used. The LDS/LDT starters are the same except the starter has to be slightly rotated. The dipstick must also be moved. The exhaust is all the same. The stock deuce air breather will work --- no problem. Installing an LTS in a deuce is easy.

The LDS sounds different and runs a LOT better than the LDT.

I am looking to add a turbo to my deuce. I have heard that the engines are the same and also that there are differences. Has anyone installed a turbo on a deuce that never had a turbo installed? How did it go ? Instructions suggestions for those that are planning on doing this ?
