Do you think a normal cherry picker with a heavy enough load rating could pull the motor?

If so, I can see what I can come up with as far as getting one to take up there if you want... Or if you just want to do an in frame rebuild that works too. Just trying to give you options.

Oh. That was the prototype mockup. It is wired up now, with packards and everything.

Doing a inframe is no problem with these engines. We do inframes everyday at work on newer semi trucks. Once you have everything out of the way it will be easy to access. Make sure to check the crankshaft really good for scratches. Checking liner protrusion is a good idea too.

Holy crap I found it.

I have that same hoist, they are actually very good. However, I don't think I would try it on a multi.....actually, I KNOW I wouldn't....I DIDN'T!!!

But again, they are worth buying if you need an engine hoist, even to just pick big stuff into the back of the truck, or out of.....I picked up a tote that was just under half full of oil out of my deuce with it, no problem....

Hercules sells the upgraded rod bolts. But if you can find new rod assemblies for a reasonable price that wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Do you have a link? I'm still trying to find a source for the 12 point rod bolts!

I wouldn't say they make complete engines. They are not the origional hercules diesel. They opened up after hercules went defunct to supply repair parts.

I have another brand of cherry picker that looks exactly like the HF one and is rated to 4 tons. Lifted the multifuel with no problems but that was only to move it around the shop as it can't lift high enough to use on the truck. I bought a HF Gantry that was on sale and had a 20% off coupon! got it for around $350 and it made the job easy. Plenty strong to swap out a multifuel, top beam didn't flex one bit. Did the swap all by myself.

Good info thanks. I have a brand new LDT to put in the duece and my cherry picker won't lift that high and I didn't want to go through the trouble of pulling the front tires to drop the front low enough.

One of those would be useful to have for not just engine swaps. What is the load rating of it? Do you think it could pull a bed or no? I might have to look into getting one of those down the road.

If it can lift a multifuel then a bed would be a cake walk as far as weight. Balancing the bed could be fun but it weighs around 1400 pounds for a 12ft bed. Multifuel weighs about 1800 pounds.
