I dont know why local PDs need this stuff in any capacity, they are CIVILIAN law enforcement and have no busisness having anything we cannot own.
Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
Readyman, You've uncovered the secret plot to slowly convert all the HMMWVs into fire trucks and Crown Vic's!

They can never be released to the public, they must be returned when done. The problem will be: several will be sold/auctioned etc. when done with. Years down the road when they catch this; how do you separate the legal ones from the 90's auctions and the incorrectly released LEO ones?I also am thinking along the lines that hopefully, after a time they will become available to the public sector. Might be wishful thinking, but who knows?
It wasn't all bad tho, we did get a lights and siren escort for the rest of the 10 miles home, (There was an multijurisdictional APB out for us)Why cant I run around with lights and sirens (sp?) as long as I stay under the speedlimit?
I dont dress like a criminal. I dont act like a criminal. I drive like a criminal. and guess what, I've never been pulled over or bothered by cops for no appearent reason. I don't care if they run around the streets of my town in bradleys aslong as they just do their job and don't harass anyone, which they haven't so far. Each and every patrol car already has a shotgun and long gun in it and every cop open carries a pistol on his/her side. I haven't seen any cases in my town of the police abusing their authority just becasue they have the fire power and most of the citizens around here do not.

I thought the Atlanta/Riverside USMC trucks were sold off without EUCs... that was the whole reason they were sold; the Marines gave them to BAE Systems without EUCs because the original plan was to export them to foreign buyers... when that sale fell through, BAE had no stipulation preventing them from just selling them on the open market. My ? on this is....... We all know the GOV can recall any of our trucks (EUC items) or change the de-mil status. If this is possible, then why hasn't the GOV recalled all the HMMWV's that were mistakenly sold off in the firstplace?
My theory; AMG wanted a some sold off (in limited numbers) to create an interest. That way when the regular population found out you couldn't get one from surplus they would have to buy the civy H1

this is the exact problem I wonder about. I know of 2 here in columbia that have already been sold off to the public under an open auction. FD red and everything. Just makes you wonder when lots more of them will start slipping thru the cracks.
Yup, No end use restrictions on the United Defense Humvees and not sold through normal surplus channels so the normal rules don't seem to apply to these.
