Light Wood Hauling

Drove a little over 70 miles (hey, that's a record so far for me and my deuce) into the mountains S.E. of Kamas, UT (Mill Hollow) to go wood "hunting" with my brother. Turned out to be poor wood gathering spot (and a lot of work to turn the deuce and trailer around), but I thoroughly enjoyed the drive, scenery, and the ol' deuce. Made me miss my years growing up in Wyoming.

And the evening trip home:

The color tone in this picture looks like it's an aged 1970's shot:

And finally, a warning sign I told "I got this, no worries."

Such great temperatures too right after some rains. Couldn't have asked for a better day for wood hunting (except more wood closer to the road that the trucks weren't allowed to leave).

Greatest way to watch the sun set:

OK, where in N.Utah are you based? I'm in Roy and travel that piece of I-84 regularly. Will be going to Morgan for a car show Saturday.

Do you just drive along country roads and look for wood to pick up? Don`t people have wood they need cleaned up in that part of the country? I guess things are different in different areas. Beautiful area.

Sure enjoyed your photos and the description of your day. That looks like beautiful country.

We'll be headed into the woods with the Deuce for some tree cutting a few times this fall. The smell of fresh cut trees, chainsaw oil, mountain air - it's just close to heaven.

And putting your feet up and enjoying that first beer when the day is done is good, too!

Your pictures are really great, as is the scenery you drove thru. That is alot of work for the firewood, having to carry it back to the truck in large pieces.

Here in N Florida, I just drive up to a tree that has blown down on the county right of way & cut it up with a chainsaw & throw it into the back of the truck. If the pieces are too heavy, split them with an axe & into the truck. I usually leave the small branches for the county cleanup crews. It's not pretty scenery & it is Hot, but it is free wood, seasoned by the time you need it in January & February.

Thanks for posting the pictures again, you don't see scenery like that here!

No, but it did seem every 3rd house had chopped wood for sale in self-serve bins on the front (especially in the town called "Woodland"!).

We have a harvesting permit from the forest service in that area. We're going to scout out other spots where you don't have to hike the logs up/down the hill side and trying not to break a leg ;)

Miss the mountains up there. Was stationed at Hill AFB (2009-2012) but spent most of my time out on the demolition ranges by the salt flats.
