Getting my first mtv delivered soon I was wondering about adding tires slightly taller. I searched the forum and found an older post with an inquiry about widening the stance but nothing specific on using taller tires. Any input or would be appreciated.

I was thinking 1400s I don't see why they wouldn't mount to the same rims. I would think its a 2 piece rim with beadlocker just like the 5ton.

The early proto FMTVs were tested with 1400s. They clear just fine. I decided to stay with 395s and avoid 1400s to save unsprung weight, loss of braking (these trucks don't stop well to begin with) and higher speed rating.

I have never driven one. I do have one on its way to me. It's made to stop with a load I can't see how upgrading to slightly larger tires would make that much difference stopping. Especially with no or low load. I think it looks better with the larger tires. How does it stop compared to the m923a2?

Update. Got my 1088 tractor. Drove it. Brakes appear to work well. When lowering cab with stock wheels the cable foot steps catch on the front wheels but pop into place. If the tires were much taller I could see this becoming an issue.
