Hello all.

The gas cap on my deuce is very lose. I was thinking its time to replace the gasket. Found a post on SS, but not one replied.

Don't want to spend the $$ on a new gas cap... anyone have a source for the gasket?

paufarber,
If all it needs is a gasket, Bobs answer is hard to beat. On my 5 ton there is 2 tanks with a cap each. A new gasket made one like new and the other was still loose. Seems there is like a brass spring washer behind the gasket. If that is collapsed, the new gasket still wont snug up the cap. I just used the old gasket under the new to get me by for now, but the cap is junk. Just something to check. Dean

Thanks all,

Was hoping for a NAPA part or quick fix.

A $5 gasket becomes $15+ with shipping. :(

I will take the old gasket out and look at the brass washer.

As an alternative, I have had good luck at the local BEARING SHOP finding various O-Rings and Seals & Gaskets. I've not had to mess with the Fuel Tank Cap Seal on our Deuce, but I'm betting that you can find an appropriate off-the-shelf item that would work.

Look in the yellow-pages under BEARINGS. The local supplier is listed as : West Texas Bearing & Supply,

Material Spec SHOULD include resistance to Diesel/Petroleum Products.
