I've got about 300 trouble free miles on the M998 since the sock clogged. New lift pump, new filter, everything is clean.

I drove it about 60 miles yesterday. 30 miles out, running errands, ate dinner and then came home. On the way back, it was running just fine. Fan cycling on and off like it should, fully up to operating temperature. Cruising at the blistering 53mph as always. Ambient temp in the 40's.

Lost power on a slight upgrade. Not profound, but noticeable. This was 5 miles from the house. I drove it the rest of the way home. I thought i noticed a light haze to the exhaust while driving. Odor of kerosene maybe.

I got it home and let it idle in the driveway for a couple of minutes. Nothing out of the ordinary. Revving it in neutral in the driveway produces light colored smoke that looks like an 8.3 when the 8.3 is cold. There is no odor of coolant.

I'm inclined to check compression. I welcome any suggestions anyone may have.

I realize i sound like bad clanging bell, but similar "items" were the begining of the end for my injection pump, reason i changed it, in my old M1009....im NOT an expert or even really good at 6.2, im sure youll get TONS other ideas.....hopefully less expensive and easier to do....

How to check this?
"You know what, on second thought the leaking injector's fuel will still be burnt off in the cylinder on each cycle, so if your engine is not knocking don't bother.
You would crack each injector separately."

Going back on this. Check the injectors.
Leaking/faulty injector will cause white smoke.

Dirty air filter ? Or restricted air intake ?
A few times in the past I've seen where people had issues with the mushroom cap over the intake pip was pressed down too far and caused a restriction.
The air filter restriction gauge should tell you if it's something with the air intake or filter, provided the tube going to the gauge from the intake is present and unbroken.

Does it have a coolant smell? Is the smoke puffy cloud white or angry storm cloud white? Puffy white with a coolant whiff leads to head gasket. Dirty white is fuel normally.

Have you checked your coolant level with the engine cold? Do you have a way to do a cooling system pressure test?

Dirty white like a cold 8.3. No coolant smell.

Coolant level unremarkable.

I'm thinking fuel or compression. :(

Since issue started at operating temperature you are correct it isn’t a glow plug issue. I was hunting for a stuck open injector or 8 in my last question. But, you have no hydrolock and normal cold starting. That means your injectors are holding back fuel When the engine is off.

Does it smoke at idle or just under load?

Just under load, or revved in neutral.

I'll do some more diagnostic today and see if any additional information reveals itself.

Thanks for your insight.
