M-577 Questions

Does the DoD sell vehicles such as the M-577 Command Post Carriers?
If they do, are they legal drive on the road?

I lived in one for the better part of three years in Germany when I served as a FDC Specialist in a Lance Missile Battalion.
I had a passing thought that maybe they would make a good way off the road camper.
You could tow a healthy trailer behind them with all your toys.

I would bet that some have gotten out, but I'd say as a generalization that you won't see any. In this country, as opposed to the UK, it is generally frowned upon to drive tracked vehicles on the roads. I am not sure of the legality, per se, if the tracked vehicle has rubber track pads (as modern US military vehicles do). No doubt that someone with firsthand knowledge will follow-up on this post.

FYI...if you want to own an M113 variant, you will have to settle for an M548/M1015.

I have not seen any of the 577s or the modern 113 series for sale. When I picked up my deuce in San Antonio they were loading one onto a flat bed. I wanted to ask if they would let me drive it up since I have not driven one since my 901 ITV in Germany. I would love to have one as the extra height inside would make a great hunting rig. Sleep inside and have a ready made deer stand.

hello I have not seen a 577 for sale but the m113s are out there but in small numbers and expensive
here is one now

best bet is go with a British one but still pricey

Most 577's were upgraded to 1068, to make them compatible with current digital systems and they finally added a diesel generator that runs off the onboard fuel supply.I think United Defence did the upgrade , the upgraded ones will probably still be in service for quite a while yet.

Doubt if they would sell to and individual, probably go to foreign sales/giveaway program.

Can't for the life of me understand why they won't give me one I even pay taxes!
