M-817 brake problems

I have an m-817 that the brakes went almost to the floor but worked when I got it. It has been sitting and now the brakes go all the way to the floor and do not work. I was going to start by adjusting the brakes but after loosening the large nut I can not find anything to fit the inner adjuster. Does it take a special tool? Is there somewhere else I should start first? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Steve

You need to start at the beginning , READ the TM on brakes , it's available on this site . First I would check the brake fluid , Should be silicon BTW . then go from there . I think you will find either a bad master or wheel cylinder or maybe a brake line . Check for wetness on the back of the wheels/drums or any where on the frame . Quick way to check brake adjustment is pump the pedal a few times if the pedal comes up , let it sit a second and do it again , if the same thing happens , it MIGHT need a adjustment , if everything else checks out .

The truck sat about 8 months but the brake pedal went way down before that but the brakes worked now they do not work. There are no leaks anywhere. The pedal will not pump up at all but does appear to be working. You can hear one of the rear shoes moving when pumping the pedal. The pedal does come back up but not instantly. Thanks steve

Also it does not use any brake fluid the master stays full.

I'd start with a full disassembly and inspection of the brakes.

From there, a full adjustment(outlined in the -20TM).
