I need to add to my previous post regarding the tires you indicated you are considering for your CUCV. Sorry for the double posts on the same aspect of the thread, in advance....
I just did some checking and found the follow excerpt on a forum for 4x4's regarding upsizing tires on rims on Chevys:
"...technically speaking, a 285/75/16 inch tire is even too wide for the stock 7" rim (Z-71-style), but many of us do it with minimal tire wear problems. As Big Boy (and BF Goodrich) point out, you really should have at least a 7.5" rim width for a 285 tire. Again, the stock 6.5" steel wheels (chrome or painted steel) are just too narrow for a 285mm width tire. "
I know that the tires will mount on the stock rims. I suspect they are 7" wide. It is possible the military specified a wider wheel which is why you need to find out how wide they are before making a decision on tires being mounted on your OEM rims.
Even if you decide to mount the tires on your rims that are under width in terms of specs, at least you will be informed.
I wish I could offer a simple yes or no, but this one
is a judgement call and that is up to you.
