Well I had to remove the two lower leafs so my u bolts would work with 4 inch steel blocks. Good thing too they were broken. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1396217590.811675.jpg

Got the rear axle in and one if the front shackles.
I removed two of the rear leafs and re installed the over load spring ad used 4 inch manufactured blocks.
Note.... When using a 1/2 ton axle and a small lift you will need to have a new drive shaft made. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1396746936.876249.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1396746967.868870.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1396747006.852872.jpg

I will have less then a grand in both axles and they both have full rebuilds ( less new gears) including axles, u joints, every brake part and ball joints. I dont think you can beat that with a stick.
Also in the first few posts you would have seen that the rear axle was hacked in and not installed correctly.
For what was needed to get the axles in shape it is way better just to remove and replace.

Front axle is in!
I added a zero rate, longerHD hangers and a extra stock leaf up front. I was a tad surprised on how one leaf could stiffen the front. We all know how arched the springs are and now it's flat!
Wheel well height is 40.5" front and 41" rear. I'm going to add one add one more leaf to the rear to get 1-1.5" rake.

Well I got all the gauges rebuilt and the housing painted and repaired this week.
I just ordered a load of the 194 LED lights but I have a question.
I know the charging circuit runs thru the gen warning lights.. Will it be ok with LED lights?

An LED is just a diode that lights up, and, being a diode, only allows current flow in one direction. It is my understanding that current in the exciter circuit flows in both directions, depending on if the alternator is working or not, ie light on when not charging, as well as light on when overcharging. The light is only seen as 'off' when there is a balance in the circuit. In addition, the bulb rating seems to be important, probably due to the resistance of the filament. The addition of a resistor would probably take care of that portion of it.

Besides that, others have posted that it didn't work. Perhaps one of those tricolor LED's might work, as they light up one color with current in one direction, and a different color with current flow in the other direction.

well I have taken her to Haspin and off roaded it and when in low range she does GREAT!
On the road she is a tad doggie with 33" tires and 3.08 gears.
If I were going to do it again I would do 3.42's with 33" tires. But the truck drives and feels good at 65 MPH.
I did take the rear brake valve off, no need for it with 11" rear brakes.

Sounds like you have a pretty sweet setup. I've often drempt of being able to do 65 without fear of my motor blowing up. And being able to hit the road and expect more than 14 mpg... Give us an update with what kind of mileage you wind up getting. I'm really curious, as I have a 2" lift and 33's, and can never get more than 15mpg hwy.

Is this going to be a new trend in old trucks? I was is Yuma the other week and started talking with a guy about the old 6.2s and CUCVs. I mentioned that eventually I wanted to get 1 ton gear on my '09. He was interested in my 3.08 setup until I told him how far away I lived.

maybe there's a market for swapping 10 bolts for 14 bolts between people that drive long distances and those that want to hot-rod.

I did some work to the old girl today.
Doghead mod
Really super cool high power radio
Removed the fuse block and cleaned and removed the melted head light fuse and put in a breaker
Removed the radio filters on the wipers... Better but still ****ty.
If you have not cleaned your fuse block and cut out the horn diodes
You better get to it!!!!!
