My question is if I replace my faulty fuel tank with a 31 gallon one (the stock one is 27) can I use my skid plate?

You will need other straps. Is it worth the 4-gallon difference?

Well the 31 gal tank is practically free (barter for a bottle of whiskey I bought over 10 years ago).

I make straps all the time. 2 strips of galvanneal steel 12 gauge and a welder you can fabricate a set easily. Good Luck.

Best I can say is give it a try. I pulled my tank once. Given my druthers, I’ll never do that heinous chore again. As I recall the skid plate was a pretty tight fit. Try taking some measurements of both tanks and compare.
