M1009 horn problem

Horn not working. Fuse is good, found wire at horn cut in two near capacitor. Spliced cut wire back, now horn won't quit? Replace relay next? What say you...

There is a diode under the tape on the back of the horn relay. It is probably shorted. It can be removed, and does not need to be replaced.

Good luck getting up there to cut it out. Hire a mini me to go under the dash to get it.

The horn issue is one of them.

You may also have a stuck horn button on the steering wheel.

I had the same problem. I was so grateful for the thread that Warthog created back in 2010. It saved me hours of aggravation. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?50551-CUCV-Switches-Diodes-Relays
I used a pair of needle nose pliers to split the diode in half. I agree with CUCVRUS - the diode is difficult to get to. Lay a piece of padding on the driver side floorboards and lay on your back.

There may be rust under the horn button. Use a Torx bit to remove the cup under the horn button. Sand off all the rust, reinstall the cup and the horn button.
