M1009 Master cylinder replacement, Atlana

Hi guys,

Who in the Atlanta area, would be kind enough to assist me,
in replacing the master cylinder on my M1009?

I can get the parts from Napa, Advance, etc. no worries.
But I need a "soldier B..." to assist in
proper removal, installation, bleeding, etc...

I would like to learn from this experience
as this would be my first time doing something like this,
and I will be participating in the work to be done.
So please take this into account.

Also, I do not expect people to do any work for me for free,
so please tell me what you want in exchange for assistance.

Please also keep in mind the rules where I live do not allow
people to work on their own vehicles, so any work done
cannot be done where I live.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Too bad you guys are too far away.

Good news,
I found the part at a local advanced auto for about $46.xx and tax, etc.
They are holding it for me until tomorrow when I get paid.

Then I will go from there as far as getting it installed.
I did read the TM though, and looked under my hood.
Seems doable, just cannot do it here at home,

Clinto was talking about doing some MV repair tutorials. I bet he'd don his blue gloves and dive right in!

I offered to do his shocks at my cookout - no show
He mentioned to come to the rally in the start of his appearance here getting this unit - no show

Reading through the abundance of HELP ME threads since he got this thing - no shows.

Seems if he owned a Nissan - he would be on a Nissan forum asking the same things
Toyota or whatever - these threads seem endless and pointless.

Folks that think this is too cruel - go back and read all these posts from CJ from day one till now - same after same after same after same after same. Kind of like an alien crop circle - had no end.

Is this thing still for sale ??

And make such a long trip like that?

That may not be a bad idea, if I could afford it.

I do my best to show up when I am expected.
But sometimes things unexpected come up, my life has always been like that.

I appreciate the offers, and will follow thru when I can.

As much as I would like to go to the rally, I had to wait until the paycheck I just got,
to know if I can afford to attend the rally. It does not look good.

As for being for sale, I refuse to consider selling it, unless it is in safe, mechanical
condition. I do not want to sell anyone something that is not running and/or unsafe
to drive.

These trucks are 26+ years old, I understood that when I got it.
I do what repairs I can, when I can.

And when I cannot, or I do not know something. I post here to learn,
and/or get assistance from someone more knowledgeable than I.
I also do read the TM's, and they have helped me do some things on my own.

But no harm in coming here I thought... I see people posting here all the time
asking for assistance with their issues or answers to their questions.

I do NOT make that much to begin with, so when I have to choose between
working to make more hours at work, or go to a rally/cookout, I have to choose work.

THAT is the main reason I usually do not show up for things, I am at work,
or simply cannot afford to make the trip.

My apologies to everyone that have become annoyed with my posts.
That was never my intent. I only seek solutions, like anyone else here.

Perhaps I will go offline and handle things without coming here anymore.

By the way, if anyone ever needs my assistance, I would be glad to give it,
no matter how many times they ask.

I don't know what your problem is(or if you even have a problem), you only said you wanted to change it, so I can't say if it's safe to drive that far.

The problem I have is lately the pedal goes all the way to the floor when I brake,
when I pump it a few times while I am driving, it comes back up and I can stop fine.

I have consulted with a couple of local diesel mechanics and they both say,
it sounds like the master cylinder.

So that is where I am at now...

Does the fluid level ever get low in the master cylinder?

Have you disassembled any of the brake system lately?

Are there any signs of wetness? If the level is going down, it has to be leaking out somewhere.

Which end is getting low? Front or rear? Front getting low would indicate need for pads rear getting low would indicate a leak. Rotted lines are very common on these.

but I will check them again tomorrow.

If you are referring to which end of the master cylinder.
The front resvoir was low, the rear resvoir was full.

The parking brake pedal goes down real low also..

I did have the brake system inspected by a reputable mechanic about a year and a half ago,
he said then that the brakes looked like they were just done by someone that knew what they were doing.
