M1009 no ignition after doghead relay mod

I did the Doghead starter relay mod and the glow plug momentary button on my 85 m1009.

when I turned the key, it had power. The glow plug momentary button worked.

Then I went to start it, and all the power shut off. Now it is completely dead.
Batteries are hooked up tight with plenty of charge.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update: the first battery in the series (closest to headlights) is dead when the load was applied with the load tester. Other battery is good.

I’ll charge it and post if that was the only. problem.

After you charge the battery, you need to load test it again to see if it's any good.
If you proves good, then you need to check why it was dead, Charging issue?

It's best to replace multiple battery systems in pairs as a general rule.

However in the case of the CUCV system being the front battery does 95% of the work and load
It does fail faster than the rear which is only need for starting/jumping and GP if not modified.
So once a year I rotate front to rear, and seem to get better life from them.

Thanks for the battery advice.

it is still odd to me that there is absolutely NO power after turning the key. It is almost like a fuse is blown. (Maybe the starter relay cut off all power?)


But, when I tried to jump start it a second time and turned the key to ON, I got the glow plug wait light etc. However, when I turned the key, it went completely dead again... no lights or power anywhere.

Well, It looks correct.
I'm sure you used the correct solenoid from the Part numbers from previous threads?

One thing about a wide range of solenoids is they look the same, but are internally different.

If that checks, start looking for a pinched wire, or a locked starter.

Good news.

Now Check the charging system to be sure the front battery Alt.1 is charging.
While your at Check back battery Alt 2 is good.
While running each battery should have 14.2 V at the connections with a VOM.

If you disconnected the batteries before modifying the wiring(as you should have),, perhaps you just had a bad connection at a battery terminal.

As was suggested, test each battery and alternator to be sure they are good and functioning as they should.
