M1009 Repair Cost?

Hey all,

First time poster here! Glad to be on board.

I am looking to buy a M1009 locally. I went for a test drive and found a few issues and was hoping someone had a rough idea as to what costs would be to repair.

The owner agreed to work with me on the cost due to the issues I found. So I am just trying to figure out what I should offer.

The first thing I found was that the 4 wheel drive was a pain to engage, and made a loud rumbling/rubbing noise when moving. This was in both 4W Low and 4W High. I checked the hubs and tried several times to see if the problem would go away.

In 2WD it was fine except that the front end alignment was squirrely. At speeds above 40 MPH the vehicle pulled to the right and when you went to turn to the right or left it was very agressive when turning right but turned normally when turning left.

I also noticed that the motor mounts are not as good as they could be because there was some excess vibration of the engine when compared to the 3 other M1009's ive looked at lately!

So any idea on,
What It would cost to get the 4WD figured out/repaired?
How much does it cost to rebuild the front end on these?
How much does it cost to install new motor mounts?

Perhaps this is to vague, but I am just trying to get a starting point. I can probably do alot of the work myself, but it might not be worth my time!

Anyways thanks!

Sounds like it will need axle shafts joints, steering damper, and transfer case work. It could be simple as low fluid level in the tcase.

I wouldn't spend over 1500 or so and be ready for a few days work if competent.

Gotcha, the owner has two M1009's. The one I want being the best of the two. He wants $3400 each. I offered $2,000 due to mechanical uncertainty. That's to low for him and **** near to high for me!
