What is the best commercially available wheel bearing grease for the M101s? The TM shows automotive/artillery grease...

I used some HD wheel bearing grease from the local supply house. They have disk or drum brake versions, IIRC, I use disk for everything; one less container to keep around.

Bearing Packing Setup

I went shopping for bearing packing/replacement stuff for the trailers. I picked up:

HF Bearing Race and Seal Installation Kit for $32
Lisle Handy Packer for 3 1/2" Bearings for $24
3/16" x 2" cotter pins for $2
Mobil 1 sythetic grease already in the garage
1 1/2" socket 1/2"drive for $7

I know a lot of you can do this by feel, but I haven't got that touch. I did one trailer and had a hot hub and a cool hub after following the TM. I tore the hot hub down, checked for heat damage, and repacked both bearings with the handy packer. After reassembling the hub, I followed the TM, retorqued to 30 ft/lbs, and then backed off the axle nut -- plus a bit more, eased it back to a stop and pinned it. There was no slop.

I took the trailer out for a 5 mile spin and came back with 2 cool hubs. I'm going to keep an eye on the Mobil 1 sythetic grease, and if I need to, I'll repack with new HD grease.

Time to get some firewood.

I just finished my M116A2 and here are some useful NAPA numbers:

Axle Seal 22532
Bearing/Race BR25580/BR25520
Flexible Brake Hose 5784
Slave cylinder overhaul kit 264
Master cylinder overhaul kit 137

Napa also carries the entire slave cylinder but its more expensive than etrailers.com

Looking for the same info....except for a M105A2.

For bearings, I came up with Timken number 39590 and 39520, and set #408. Anyone know if thats right, and if I order set 408 will it have all I need???

Thanks

Hello all,

Beeing in europe, I only could wish for these trailers in such a nice state!
Mine is a '61 Parkhurst M-101A2 which i'm busy refurbishing at the moment, Including body work (cutting holes out and filling in with fresh steel, and finding a solution for the horrible front seam!)
Other than that, i could only wish for a new champignon on the master brake cilinder, parking break cables, handles and a rear support leg.
and since all the bolts and nuts are so badly rusted, I'd wish to replace them as wel. but since they are all US sizes, and over here we have only metric stuff... (maybe we can have a change out, you sent me some US sized stuff, I sent you metric bolts and nuts????):cookoo::whistle:

Thank You for this information - I'm looking to go over my hubs - bearings on my "New" M101A2 I just got!

In case anyone could use the numbers, I just replaced the bearings on one of my 101-A3 trailers the bearings were the same # as what came out of the hub but the seal had been discontinued, the first box in the pic is the replacement /cross number.

I have an M101A2 and the master cylinder had a bunch of water in it when I got it. It has a bunch of rust in there and bet the brake lines and wheel cylinders are shot.I'd rather replace everything and know what I've got and can rely on it after that. So, I am planning to redo the entire brake system (all hydraulics, linings, etc), bearings, and seals this Spring. I have a new master cylinder. I see from some of the postings that the seals are commonly available, yet need to confirm the proper ones. I plan to have the brakes relined by a local shop and would like to get everything else I can organized prior to tearing it apart.
What I do not have a source for is the 1) wheel cylinders 2) bearing seals and 3) brake lines (need flexible portions as I will fab the rigid ones per the TM). Do any of you have a part numbers from etrailers, NAPA, or other common source for these parts? From Lockjosh it seems the SKF 22532 is the correct wheel bearing seal. Has anyone else confirmed it?

If you read a couple of posts back, there was someone who mentioned quite a couple of those things you need.

I know this is way after the fact, but is there any chance you know that part # for the napa slave cylinder?

This thread is one of the reasons I subscribed and upgraded - thanks all!

My project, trying on some new shoes (to match the tow vehicle).
