m1028a1 front end jump

got it from some guy in pa. we hit a good set of bumps. the right front starts jump like crazy.. slowed way down.. it goes away.. pull off the road. dont see a thing... any ideas? thanks

Yeah it is kind of hard to read, but I think I know what to check.

Bad tire, ready to blow out. Make sure they are not cracked and dry rotted, if it was sitting for a long time replace the tires as they would have flat spots.

ok sorry for that. we were driving is new cucv.. we hit a set a bad bumps in the road.. the right side of the truck starts jumping like crazy. never seen anything like it before.. everything on the truck looks fine.. slow down it goes away.. rove back to my house no problems

I keep hearing about this Death Wobble, I would check the steering damper, looks like a horizontal shock on the drivers side front Axel. Take it off and try to push and pull. If its easy to do, replace it. They are fairly cheap and a must for a good drive.

What you describe is exactly what a tire with a broken belt will act like. Jack up fronting wheel and look for splits and/or unusual bulges. Check everything else for play (king pins, w
8heel bearings, tie rods etc) while the front end is on jack stands.

Your truck may have 40,000 miles but dry rot from sitting and not being used is sometimes worse than 240,000 miles. Thats my 2 cents

I kept having almost exactly this same problem with a set of old tires. Funny thing was the tires looked fine, but they were so old the belts kept breaking. I found a good way to check for broken belts: Put your hand on the tread with your palm down and run it along the tire. You should be able to feel any bulges. I got a new set of tires and keep them at around 40-45PSI. No problems since.

i believe you have The Wobble, sir. my M1010 does it too, because i havent had time to do the Kingpin maintenence yet. im also replacing all bushings, steering dampner, shocks, and hopefully springs too... ive just been putting it off because i want to lift it, and just do everything at once. take a look at the rubber bumpstops. mine are all chewed to heck from it. i recommend immediately fixing it to anyone experiencing this issue... im just slow about it because ive had some really crappy, wore out cars and trucks in the past that most people should never drive, and have learned how to control even the most uncontrollable vehicle... hehehe :shock: :cookoo:

Its definitely mine! 8) I'm thinking with 1009 seats up front and in the 1st row (so I still have room to put a turret and gun in. Maybe like this) [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESW690o9Unk/watch?v=ESW690o9Unk[/media], a decently built up 6.2 or mechanical 6.5, a tow hitch, window guards like the ones the border patrol puts on their trucks, A/C, and a set of 33-35" mild off road tires (like maybe the BF Goodrich TA/KO's) Ought to be able to haul my butt and loved ones (plus all their stuff) in the ultimate of security and comfort! Oh, one of these days when I have the time and money. . .

iDM, thanks for the heads up on that M1007 thread!! thats an awesome truck, and he definately built it right. and as for the M134 Minigun, all i can say is ooooooooohhhhh...:drool: Me Likey !! my original plans for a camper/SHTF vehicle was going to be a deuce with a moving truck box, and i had intended on actually putting a hatch in the roof to access a rooftop cargo rack, serve as an escape option in a severe accident, and, if needed, give an excellent vantage point for target aquisition and elimination(the zombies, man, the ZOMBIES!! HEHEHE)... after seeing that M134... well, all i can say is, even tho i despise the concept of money and the evils it causes, its things like this video that make me wish i had a TrustFund Girl... hahahaha... that setup is way more convenient, and alot more effective, than having my own guns stored in the gunlocker mounted in the back(another thing i had planned on installing if i had built the Deuce Camper, and the main feature that convinced me to make the 2 1/2hr drive to look at my M1010 when i bought it) im guessing that setup would be hard to explain and justify to my local Johnny Law, though... either that, or id get sick of them calling me to ask if they can borrow the truck on their days off.:rolleyes: thanks again for the heads up on both of those!!:beer:
