M105 Recovery- Great day for getting pulled over

I traveled to Ft. Stewart Ga. today to recover my tan M105A2. I already had two others, but one was camo green, the other a VSE refurbished OD green, but they did not match my tan M109A3 camper, and I wanted one to match. I will camo it later.

On the way home, I passed by two state troopers in the median turned in opposite directions, watching traffic both ways. I kept it down to 55 coming home because I didn't want to bother taking the cover off, which is in excellent condition. I checked in the rear view mirror as is usual just to make sure I cleared them without chase. A few minutes later, I have the GSP on my tail, lights blaring away, so I pull over. Buckled up my pants and got out my license. When I got out, I just laughed and said before he could say anything, "I really needed a break anyway". He just smiled.

I didn't have a trailer tag. He said he pulled me over for no seatbelt and was curious about the tag. It's as if he already knew I just purchased it and he was admiring it. He did a full safty check and looked at my chains and hookup. I told him while I was out, I needed to check my magnetic lights as they keep falling off on me. He said the lights worked fine. I got a better pair then those cheapo $10 on sale Harbor Freight magnetics, which, IMO are worthless, even taped down. The stronger magnets are fantastic and they held up well.

Anyway, he was a great guy and gave me a pass on the seat belt. We talked about the trailer and government liquidation and had a nice chat on a nice day. They're not all bad! And I love my .new M105, except for the paint on the tires. Anyone know how to remove it and clean these tires up?

Thought about that. The undercarriage was all freshly painted too, and it had plenty of paint on the other side. It would be nice if I could remove it for free. Anyone know if a soda blaster would do the job. I have one on hand, and a new bag of soda, but not sure if it is to big of a job for the cheap Harbor Freight blaster, said to be good for small parts, as it turns out.

27 years as an officer and still waiting to stop my first military vehicle. Not likely to happen as tomorrow is my last day. You must have been pulling it with a civilian truck. Anyway, I am glad he did not hook you up with a summons, court costs alone are 110 dollars here when the troopers snag you here. Glen

A soda blaster will take the paint off the tires without hurting the rubber, and is gentle enough to not kill the paint on the wheels if you 'oops' a bit.

Edit: just saw you are already considering a soda blaster. The little HF unit will do it.

Ditto. Have a happy retirement. Now you'll have more time for MV's.

I'm glad the cop was understanding. He probably thought the trailer was cool.
