Unfortunately not always. Do not cheap out on this one.
Here is a list of some of the damages:
1. Cracked engine block.
2. Broken alternator bracket
3. Cracked trans bell housing

and the list goes on and on.....
I'm in the process of finding a place to check the shafts for me.

Looking to remove them myself & I've always gotten beyond frustrated with u-joints. Imagine I'd be even more frustrated with these large ones.

I saw there are tools for doing it. Found this set;

I looked at this, but ended up with the Tiger Tool. Found it used.

Some people do not like U joint pullers, and just use brute force tools. If you use either, be sure to pull the zerks off first.

That is not the more costly Tiger brand. I measured mine and get 4 9/16" and 6 7/8'' on my tiger. So looks like it would work and with Amazon you can send it back. The install tool is not really needed but I have one.

Think I am going to go ahead & order the one on the Amazon link since it has both tools & is a fair cost. I don't mind buying the tool to save myself some cursing & tossing tools. :)

So, today I decided to look at the cab air ride springs. It seemed like the cab was clanking when I was hitting bumps. But, I was getting no air leak noise.

Lifted the cab by hand since the hydro pack spits to much fluid. Messed with the valve at the bottom right of the control box & watched the spring try to inflate then sink back down. Noe there is a leaking air sound.

Noticed the pins underneath the air springs. Put them in. Had to lift the large U shaped bracket the cab sits on. Settled the cab back down. Had to lightly tap the cab latch spring to get it to close.

When for a drive. Noticed the fan clutch engaged almost right away. Did a little driving & the fan seemed to half ass engage & not. My initial thought was a relay as I have had a few get stuck.

Before this, the fan clearly engaged & didn't with the air valve making a purge noise as it started. Also when the truck was shut off, it would usually make that noise as well.

When I got home & shut the truck down, no noise as usual. I was hearing air leaking from the driver side air bag area. It was dark already & hard to tell.

I did try to use the air hydraulic pack earlier in the day to get the pin to latch.

Plan to fiddle with it a but tomorrow & read some of the TM on my downtime at work.

If there is an air bag problem, is locking it with those pins the proper thing to do? The cab did seem more solid.

If there is an air bag leak, what position should the valve in the control box be?

On a good note, the hand lever actually works very well to lift the cab.

Any tips/advice are appreciated & thanks in advance.

EDIT: Found the answers. No, don't use pins.

Also, it is possible the leaking air springs will cause an issue with the fan clutch.

Looks like these will be a future purchase... going to wait & see if they come up on Black Friday for sale.

Haven't posted in a while.

Been driving it a bunch. Changed engine oil & filter, fuel filters, & flushed coolant system. Put the newer Cat ELC in.

Noticed a little wetness under the transmission. Planning to change the oil & filters in that next. Can't quite tell why it's wet but it's definitely oil.

In your video, the unknown air fitting under the cab next to the heater/coolant lines is the exhaust for the treadle valve (brake pedal) and the parking brake. This is the best picture I have from months ago.

I'm sure you'll have better luck than me since I purchased from an eBay seller.

Thanks for letting me know what it is. I guess I have a slight leak then. It seems to come & go to be honest. I'll keep an eye on it & see if it gets worse but at least I know now what it is!

Got a bunch more stuff done to the truck!

Got some air springs for a very good deal local. Got them installed. What a difference!

Changed the oil/filters in the transmission. Definitely shifts much better.

Rebuild the hydraulic unit. Had one minor snag with it but it's good now. Much better than pumping it by hand!

The make shift repair on the cab latch gave out. Just as I finished my test drive for all the above repairs, I went to lift the cab & i pissed fluid everywhere.... go figure. I parked it & ordered a kit to rebuild it again from Midwest Military Equipment.

Will share my video once it is edited & uploaded.
