I've had two thanks to the National Guard, no private ownership. The first one was an A1, second was an A1P2. Civilian use would depend on the underlift system. The A1 had a unique square crosstube with two holes on each upright adapter. 1" and 1 1/2" pin holes and would likely be good only for military equipment. The A1P2 uses the same underlift that the HEMMT trucks use with a round crosstube and multiple adapters to attach to the disabled vehicle.

Both were powered with C7 Cats, Allison 7 speed 2nd gear start transmissions driving through a single speed transfer case. Top Speed with both was governed to about 62 mph and were happy to run that speed for hours at a time.

Crane on the A1 was a Grove unit with a winch motor (cable crane). Crane on the A1P2 was a Hiab knuckleboom. Capacity is rather low, I don't remember right off but I think it's about 9,000 pounds at a short radius from the truck load center. I'll research and update.

Winches totaled 3 on each variant. Twin 30,000 units mounted mid frame for rear use and a 20,000 pound capacity "self recovery" winch mounted mid frame pointed towards the front.

If you have a more specific question, I'd be happy to answer it. I now have an M984A4 HEMMT Wrecker so most answers will come from memory and / or research.

Folks, that is the right way to use the internet. That's a heck of a good, complete and technical answer.
