M146 pickup options (JBLM -> Seattle)

I recently won a GovLiquidations auction for a 1968 M146. My EUC just came through so it's time to pick it up!

There is a problem with the air-brakes -a fitting seems to be broken. Beyond that it's just a rather tall unit to be placing on a flatbed trailer to make the 40 mile trip up to Seattle. I've been searching the forums gathering the useful info and am looking for suggestions & options for picking this neat piece up.

1) Yard mgr. seems to permit it rolling down the road - at buyers risk - with a temporary permit.
2) Find a driver with a low-boy trailer to transport the trailer as-is.
3) Friend may be able to move it and is inclined to remove the undercarriage so it'll fit his trailer. Seems like just a dozen or so 1" bolts to remove which with the available forklift onsite gets us ready to roll. But makes coordination at the other end more of a hastle.
4) other options?

Anyone have any recommendations or resources up here in the PNW that may come in handy? The clock is ticking on the 10-day GovLiquidation removal policy so any pointers would be appreciated.

ps: I should add that the running gear will not be required for my use. So if anyone can offer pointers on value or utility of it - or if local members are interested in it, please let me know.

GL always seems to brake the glad hands off of these trailers. The glad hands are a common truck part, If the the street elbow is broken, mcmaster carr has them.

You have three options.

Tow it with a tractor, air up the tires, add towong lights, see if the brakes will work. Be sure to check the tires and bearings several times to make sure that you do not have an issue.

Tow it with a dolly, see above comments

The third option is to have it hauled. The trailer will fit on a Landow, the height should be just a hair under 14 feet.

I do not GL will let you or help you remove the undercarrage.

Thanks for the voice-of-reason regarding the axle question. Will try to find a suitable driver with tractor locally.

Anyone on the board able to assist - moving it north ~45 miles? What's a fair price to pay for a commercial driver - $500 with the questions about air-fittings etc.? Anyone need an axle / tire assembly?

Something to keep in mind - The trailer will move without air so long as the brake shoes are not adjusted too tight. It is an air-hydraulic system and does not have a parking brake.

Also, most military tractors will be able to move the 146 "safely" without brakes, as it is a "relatively" light (7330 lbs) military trailer. This is probably not legal in most places, though.

Appreciate the good advice here on SS regarding the trailer move. I was able to meet a few SS members at the Puyallup PSMVCC display last weekend.

Thanks to Kurt & his Mrs., I now have the trailer onsite. Heck, I've even had a good conversation with my neighbor prompted by the new addition - and we have an understanding... Now time to move the axles, tires, landing gear along posted separately this morning.
