M211 mess truck

I thought this was an interesting photo my friend posted online of his dad in the Army as a Mess Sgt. Not sure of the date of the pic.

I have never seen a deuce set up like this before. Figured you guys would like to see it.

That looks like it was field built. The use of the troop seat to make a slef, the screened in raised roof of the bed area. Looks like a local unit modification and not mass produced.

There were mess trucks during WWII. Canada kept the idea going after the war, while the US went with kitchen tents. Don't know why!

My M35A2 a NDNG that I got this year at Ft Riley was set up that way. The screen wire had been pulled, had a extended top, plywood rear door and troop seat mounted to the outside. They also used them to dry the pots and pans.

Here is an M135 from CFB Petawawa, which was produced as a CF Kitchen truck. The truck that we are currently driving saw similar service at CFB Chilliwack. I think that I even dined off of it a couple of times in the field!

Seen plenty of the M35's setup that way, but not a 211.

The instructions for making the modifications to provide a field mess set up in a 2 1/2 Ton truck is a standardized operation. Locally fabrictated.

The detailed instructions are in the mess TM manuals. Early closed cab and late open cab WWII GMC CCKW's, then GMC 211's and later manuals show same set up in M35's.
