I recently purchased a aftermarket C-Turbo from C&C Equipment. They said it was a remake of the Whistler turbo. I just installed it today, and I was confused. I had the D-turbo and the C was smaller but when i installed it and fired up the truck, it sounded like the D turbo. I started it up for a second without the air filter because mine was dirty. I also have rear dual exhaust. I’m new to all this so I was just wondering if the air filter not being there or the dual exhaust would cause it to not “whistle”, or did I just get scammed on a turbo?

I have found C&C to be a helpful and honest company in my dealings. Why not start with them?
I tried, but cannot make out enough details on your pictures (such as a type or part number) to be of any help.

So I emailed them and they said they sold 20 of the turbos and I was the first one to say anything l, then they went on to say it was a aftermarket so it may not sound the same. Even though they put on there that it was a Whistler turbo

Curious to see a pic of the turbo, especially the "scroll". The "C" turbo has a very characteristic scroll.

The turbo you have has the clamped-on exhaust section and the narrow scroll; that sure looks like a "C" turbo to me. I can't speak to the sound that one makes.
If it helps, the original C-turbo is a Schwitzer 3LJ-319 .

The stock truck has no real "exhaust"; it's a header with a stack and the noise is according to that. A longer exhaust may change the sound. The "whistlers" I have heard were such that one could not NOT hear them. Fun for 15 minutes, then annoying (for me, anyways).

Note that there are several types of turbo that were used on LDT and LDS engines; it is a little more complex than just "D" and "C", even though these are the most common.

What did someone call them recently on here? Wuhan War Whistles? Looks import to me.
The real Whistler should scream loud right from start up and at idle from what I have read.
If you have mufflers in your exhaust it might quiet it some.
When I was looking around they were not cheap to buy new.

I think the War Whistle refers to a smaller size turbo for the 6.2/6.5 GM.

In any case, the "C" depicted here is an aftermarket/import product. I recall someone much more knowledgeable than me on this forum giving them a very close look and he determined that they are well made, good quality pieces.
I have no idea what they sound like; someone on our forum must have one! Hopefully, they chime in!

Ha-ha... you are not alone, there! Annoying (and not only for the driver!) sure is the exact right term, especially being all stock, without a muffler added to that stack.

So I got my air filter and drove it down the road, it whistles but not at idle, I guess the dual rear exhaust deafens the sound until I get on the throttle.

I think you rear exhaust has a lot to do with not hearing a whistle, especially if you have mufflers.

Keep in mind the factory exhaust has no muffler, only about 6 feet of pipe, and exits about 4 feet from the driver's head!

My truck has a "C" turbo. It's was a new Switzer (the original Whistler) turbo when I installed it in 2013. I bought it from Eastern Surplus for around $1,400. You can hear it whistle a little bit on startup, but as the engine warms up it whistles more and more. On the road you can hear it a mile away. I love the sound. I don't worry about annoying people one bit. It seems like almost everyone in my neighborhood has a loud vehicle which they redline on every shift even at 0200 hours. Then there's the straight pipe Harleys. Loud as hell. Everyone gives them a pass. So, why not my whistler as well? I don't drive it after dinner time or when people are sleeping. This is a long winded way of saying, that if your new turbo is really a "Whistler" it would be whistling already in my view.

I have a NOS Whistler that was still in its crate, never used.

When I get time its the last missing piece for my Deuce so I'll fit it later.

I have a D turbo on my 1987 air force deuce. People have commented on the whistle it makes. Its not as loud as the C turbo posted, but there still is a whistle. Some commercial trucks have a slight whistle too. I would bet it has something to do with the length of the exhaust as far as volume goes.
