M35A2 Generator

Hey guys.

Does anyone know where in the TMs is the task to rebuild the generator? I think mine is bad. It’s killing my batteries. When I was on active duty those things had to go to the depo more times than I can remember.

Have you looked here? What is the exact model number and NSN from the truck?

The be been on Jatonka’s site and downloaded most of the TMs, but it’s been probably since 1998 that I worked on one of these so I’m having trouble nailing down what TM goes with what.

I would just by a 24 volt “one wire “ alternator. $95-125 Amazon.
Easy peasy. And depending on your powerplant ( cat C-7 etc.) there might
be a bracket that you could order or do some looking at a truck salvage Yard?

I’ve done some welding, but nothing on an engine yet. Just simple field expedient stuff in the army. I’m not a pro by any measure. I’d definitely give it a shot though. Never afraid to do that 😅

I took a look at the TM's and FEDLOG, under Prestolite 5717244. There is no record of that model. Plenty in the net, but nothing in FEDLOG or the TM. Perhaps this was installed at some point in time, because its will work right? The number seems to be associated with the HMMWV. If this is in fact a 5717244, and you want to fix it, then perhaps Southern Automotive your best bet.

I looked at TM 9-2320-361-20P, Figure 44, Item 10. It showed the Generator for your model truck, (M109-A3, 2320-00-077-1636, UOC BMJ) as: Part # 10929868. That becomes NSN: 2920-00-909-2483, Model: Prestolite AMA-5102UT. The TM tells you to go to TM 9-2320-225-34 for Repair/Testing. This is one of these TM's that covers a bunch of different generators. It refers you to TM 9-2320-225-34P for parts listing. This is whats supposed to be in it, but I guess it would depend on availability and cost.

I have a quick question for you. In this post you said it was an A3. All the paperwork I have on it says A2. I wonder if the data plates were swapped out. These are screwed in and not riveted. Even the title says A2. Where else could I look for identifying information that is more reliable than the removable data plates?
