M35a2 speedometer runs backward ??

M35A2 1978 Kaiser Jeep w/multifuel Hercules engine, speedometer & odometer run backward. Any ideas?

I had that problem trying to get a 1:200 ratio speedomer adapter. See this thread for pics of the stock adapter and my "wrong adapter". The Wrong Adapter was actually a tachometer.

Pics of the stock speedometer adapter next to the tachometer - which at the time I thought was a 1:200 ratio speedometer adapter, but no, it's actually a tachometer and the tachometer drove my speedometer backwards. The needle didn't go below zero, but the mileage rolled backwards.

Hopefully someone is not still having a problem with this one but if any one else has the the same issue check the assembly to ensure that it is properly assembled. I had this same issue in the early 80's and after trying 2 more new adapters from PLL which had the same issue I took one apart and reversed the lube fitting end and the cable connector end and it worked correct. And these were new out of the box assembled with the fitting reversed.
